The season premiere of Alias was pretty good -- not really knock your socks off good but I guess the writers were trying to capture a new audience. But since I watched all of last season, I felt a bit like the episode was too slow -- and the whole shrink narration thing going on was pretty... blah. All that time could have been spent on better things, like more Victor Garber and Michael Vartan. :) And was it just me, or did a few things seem to be wrapped up so neatly? Like Dixon's accusation and Vaughn's escape? And whatever happened to Haladcki? I would have thought Jack would have to face some kind of consequences for that little incident. I do have to say that I am liking Will more and more -- I didn't feel anything for him last season but after the finale and the premiere tonight, he pretty much kicks ass. I wish there was a way for him to salvage his life though. And omg, Lena Olin is magnificent -- she is sooo evil and geesh, she's gorgeous! Can't wait to see where they're going with that storyline, especially since the tagline for the "next time on Alias" promos was -- "Like Mother. Like Daughter. Like Hell." Hee!

Hmm... I also caught American Dreams. Another... eh. The premise is cute but it seemed a bit cheesy. I'll probably give it another try next week. We'll see how long it can hold my attention.

Anyway, Amy and I are going to work on a recipe site for the DC Network. Whee!

Just got back from watching Sweet Home Alabama -- really cute movie. Reese Witherspoon was adorable. [possible spoiler alert] The plot wasn't original or anything and the ending is totally predictable but the journey to the end was really funny. My favorite part, just like Sam's was the proposal scene in Tiffany's. Woooowww. *drools* And geesh, I had no idea Patrick Dempsey still looked that good! hee. [/end spoiler alert]

The Late Friday Five

What are your favorite ways to relax and unwind? I like to watch a lot of TV -- my newest addiction is the Food Network.

What do you do the moment you get home from work/school/errands? I'll usually check my email, get dinner started, or watch Friends reruns.

What are your favorite aromatherapeutic smells? I'm not really big on aromatherapy but I do find mint and eucalyptus to be very relaxing after a stressful day.

Do you feel more relaxed with a group of friends or hanging out by yourself? By myself. I dunno why -- I've always been an introvert.

What is something that you feel is relaxing but most people don't? I guess working on my site -- and maybe making an occasional wallpaper. Most of my friends don't find that at all relaxing.

Yay Alias tomorrow!

September 25, 2002

Just got done watching 3 hours of TV -- hee, I'm so giddy! (Why yes, I realize that I am a bum).

I really enjoyed the season premiere of BtVS -- it laid the foundation for the rest of the season without being too heavy-handed and serious. It was funny and light-hearted ("Is there anything you don't know everything about?" "Synchronized swimming. It's a mystery to me." -- hee!), which is just what I wanted after what I found to be a dark Season 6. I didn't like the foreshadowing for Dawn: The Vampire Slayer -- blah. I also found Anya's scene to be kind of tacked on, like an afterthought or something. Not too sure how I feel about insaneSpike yet. And I love that they're back at the high school but did anyone else think that it was really bright? Weird. But damn, the last 5 minutes just floored me. It was really chilling to see Warren, Glory, Adam, Dru, the Mayor, the Master and finally Buffy herself -- "It's not about right. It's not about wrong. It's about power." Just, wow.

Oh, and the new principal -- yuuumm. :P And please, more Giles. Thanks.

The Smallville premiere was... ok. I liked all the Clark/Lex scenes -- but for purely superficial reasons. :P Seriously though, the only character I really cared about was Lex -- I love angsty Lex. Oh, and Chloe rocked too -- I found her tears to be extremely realistic. I normally like Lana too but tonight she was kind of... eh. But maybe my opinion on the show is slightly biased because I miss Whitney. :( Bring him back!

I also watched The Real Word: Las Vegas -- what can I say? I like to torture myself. But really, what the heck is wrong with these people? It's the second episode (and the 4th day according to them) and already there's a threesome going on. My head hurts.

Gah, it's getting late -- I guess I have to watch my tape of Gilmore Girls tomorrow -- who in the world decided to make my life so difficult by placing GG against BtVS? Grr.

September 23, 2002

Whee! It's the start of premiere week. :) Tomorrow we have BtVS, Gilmore Girls AND Smallville! I have to remember to buy a blank tape during my lunch break. I've been really good and haven't read spoilers for any those shows so... I. Can't. Wait.

As for new shows, I've only watched Everwood, The Real World: Las Vegas (can you even call this a new show?), and John Doe. I wasn't expecting too much from Everwood so I was actually pleasantly surprised -- it's kind of a cheesy show but the cast is really great. I'll try to catch it when I can -- the cool thing is that it's showing twice a week on the WB (just like Smallville). Hmmm, as for The Real World -- can you say drama house? I mean, geesh -- these people know each other for like, a day and already there's fighting between two guys roommates over one of the girl roommates. It makes my head hurt. I don't know how many times I rolled my eyes during the episode -- but hey, at least it was entertaining. John Doe was really good too but I don't normally watch TV on Fridays so I don't know if I'll be able to watch it continuously.

Yay for Jennifer Aniston and the cast of Friends on their Emmy wins! :) It's about time.

Friday Five

Would you say that you're good at keeping in touch with people? Nope -- to be honest, I'm really awful at keeping in touch.

Which communication method do you usually prefer/use: e-mail, telephone, snail mail, blog comments, or meeting in person? Why? I like either talking on the telephone or meeting in person -- just a bit more personal. I'm completely horrible at email. It takes me ages to respond. :P

Do you have an instant messenger program? How many? Why/why not? How often do you use it? I have AOL/AIM but I rarely ever use it. I stopped using it a few years back when I was still in school because I had a tendency to chat for long periods of time and not get any schoolwork done.

Do most of your close friends live nearby or far away? Far away -- my cousin and my best friends live in Southern CA.

Are you an "out of sight, out of mind" person, or do you believe that "distance makes the heart grow fonder"? I think a bit of both -- I think that living away from my family has made me appreciate them more. But because they are so far away, I forget to check in with them sometimes -- I need to better at doing that.

And because I really like the subject of this Seven on Sunday --

Seven famous people I would sleep with... no strings attached, no questions asked, just one night...

1. Joshua Jackson

2. Tom Welling

3. Ewan MacGregor

4. Mark Barry

5. Michael Rosenbaum

6. Matthew Perry

7. Michael Vartan

YUMMMM. :P

Hmm... I just noticed that my splash page looks f*cked up in AOL -- geesh. AOL is always screwing things up!

I just found out that someone I went to both high school and college with has committed suicide. I'm still in total shock. We were never really that close -- I haven't talked to him in about a year since I moved out of Berkeley -- but in college, we had a few classes together and we hung out occasionally. He even had a crush on me at one point. Towards the end of college, he kind of went off and did his own thing and never went out with us anymore -- and we all just attributed the change to the whole growing up and growing apart deal. I know no one is to blame for what happened but I can't help but wonder if I had just tried to keep in contact or *something* then maybe he wouldn't have felt like he couldn't turn to anyone. I don't know. I just... I still can't believe it. I hope his family is coping as best they can and that maybe, somehow, he's found peace.

My commenter is now working. Thanks everyone for letting me know. hee. I am such an idiot. It was like an "it's staring you in the face" kind of problem. :P Anyway, thanks for the compliments on the new layout. *is happy*

So umm yeah. Here's version 7 -- featuring Katie Holmes once again. :) Hope everyone likes it. I just needed something new -- and I've always liked these pics of KH.

I am now going to bed.

September 10, 2002

So tomorrow is September 11th. It feels like it was yesterday, seriously. I distinctly remember what I was doing that day -- and I think that's true of everybody I've talked to. Where you were and what you were doing when you found out that the Trade Center Towers had been hit will always be with you. I was still asleep when Rob called me and told me to turn on the television. I was in total shock. I don't think I budged the entire day. I was angry because I felt helpless and I was sad because of all the unnecessary lives lost and the families who mourn them. I wanted to find out who could do this, how many planes were involved, how the rescue missions were going, and if there was any reason to believe that there were more targets. And now, a year later, I still find myself strangely drawn to the tragedy-- I don't know anyone personally who was directly affected but I guess being an American is enough of a connection to warrant my feelings.

September 8, 2002

I am officially addicted to the Food Network. Rob and I have been watching it every day for a week now. Last Monday, we were so inspired by a segment on maple syrup that we went to the grocery store to buy ingredients for maple chicken wings and banana fritters. Yummy. I don't know how to cook at all -- Rob is the cook around here -- so I guess this is a good thing.

I didn't get tickets to the American Idol concert -- boo. The nearest concert is around an hour away from here and Rob's car is very temperamental right now (read: it only starts when it wants to) so we don't want to take the chance that it'll die from the drive. Oh well. BUT my good friend Nik has offered to make a copy of the American Idol finale! Yay! Thanks again sweetie. :)

Wheeee! I am so happy that Kelly won!

Tonight's finale of American Idol was great -- just the right amount of snark and cheesy pop songs to make me happy. :P I didn't watch the show from the very beginning (I started watching when they were down to 8 finalists, I think) so I really appreciated all the great clips from the auditions. Those were hilarious -- especially of the people who copped an attitude with the judges after a bit of constructive criticism. Bwah! Too funny. I have to admit that I actually enjoyed the medleys too -- such cheesy goodness. The finalists sounded so much more relaxed now that the pressure is off. But what in the world was going on with Christina Christian's hair? She looked like she had just been electrocuted! Gah. What a nightmare. And whoa, that was a really subtle bit of foreshadowing when Will Young (the winner of the UK's Pop Idol) and Kelly were singing that duet together -- funny that they were both wearing black and everyone else surrounding them was wearing khaki pants. Was that on purpose, I wonder?

And yes, I did bawl like a baby when Kelly won -- she looked so overwhelmed and then she started to sing. She was adorable when her voice got all squeaky from trying to hold the tears back. Awww. And wow, I never really thought too much of Justin but he was amazingly gracious tonight. When the judges were singing their praises for Kelly, she looked so uncomfortable but he kept smiling and looked over at her to make her smile as well. So cute. I also loved when all the finalists rushed the stage to hug Kelly -- such a nice genuine moment. It's cool that they all seem to really like each other. I might just have to get tickets to the concert.

Is it sad that I'm going to buy that American Idol DVD? I'll probably also grab Kelly's first single -- I'm not crazy about the song -- it ranks high on the schmaltz factor -- but hey, it's Kelly. And I have to support my same-name gal.

HUGE favor: I was wondering if anyone out there taped tonight's finale -- I didn't have the foresight to record it and now I regret it. I would love to see it again. Please email me and we'll talk cost. ;)

September 4, 2002

Because I know at least one person (thanks Amy!) is still interested, I thought I'd finally finish blogging about the rest of my trip to Hawaii. :) Let's see --

Sunday, August 18
This was the day of our big hike up to the summit of Diamond Head crater. The hike is 0.8 miles one way and took us 560 feet above the crater floor, bringing us to an elevation of 761 feet. I've done this hike once before when I was 16 and in much better physical shape that I am now. I mean, I didn't remember the path being so rocky or the weather being so exruciatingly hot. I was totally huffing and puffing my way to the top. But once we reached the summit, the 99 steps and the pitch black tunnel were all worth it. So gorgeous up there.

Monday, August 19
Beach day! Whee! Rob and I spent the entire morning on the beach -- we bought an air mattress and an inner tube and rocked the waves. :) Great fun -- but I unfortunately got a bit sunburned. Blah. But I loved it -- the water is so clear and it just stretches out forever. Simply amazing. I wish I had pictures from our day at the beach but we didn't take our camera with us -- we were too scared it would be stolen. Hmmm... that's the one bad thing about going on a trip as a couple -- there's not too many opportunities to take pictures together. Too many of our pictures are individual shots and they just look a bit silly. hee. That night we went to the Paradise Cove Luau and had an awesome time. We got to participate in various games and arts and crafts, watch a spectacular show of great Hawaiian and Polynesian dancing and -- the best part -- we had unlimited drinks the entire night -- woo hoo! I am officially addicted to Lava Flows and Chi Chis. Such fun.

Then Tuesday sucked because we had to go home. BOO.

Anyway, yay -- that's done. Go Kelly for American Idol! :)

September 1, 2002

I am so freaking tired. *sigh* I spent last night helping Rob's brother move to his new apartment -- wow, I totally forgot just how much I hate moving. It sucks. I'm never going to move, ever -- it would be a total pain to pack all my stuff. I have so much... junk! lol.

And then, I had to wake up at 5am this morning to go to work(!). As a second job (and because I really love radio), I work at various events around the Bay Area for KGO Radio. Anyway, this weekend (yes, I'm working all day tomorrow too! wah!) we're at the Sausalito Art Festival. Sausalito is a great little town just north of San Francisco after crossing the Golden Gate Bridge -- it's gorgeous. It sits right on the water and there are beautiful homes sitting atop the hills. Very upscale. Anyway, artists from all around the country are at this festival to promote and sell their work -- it's amazing to walk up and down the booths to see the paintings, watercolors, sculptures and photographs. But geesh, I was there at 6:30 this morning and I didn't get home until 8pm! I was seriously ready to pass out. My feet are *still* killing me. And I have to wake up tomorrow morning and do it all over again. Geesh.

omg! Has anyone seen that TV show on NBC called Meet My Folks? I watched an episode earlier and I could not stop laughing! The premise is that there are 3 guys or girls who get to spend a weekend with a guy/girl and his/her parents. They have various "tasks" that need to be performed or "dirty little secrets" will be revealed about them. And at the end, the parents get to pick the person that their child gets to go on a vacation with. Bwah! On the show that I watched, there was a guy (who was totally hot and his name was Josh! like my huge celebrity crush. hee) and three girls -- two of which looked like they had boob jobs. heh. But damn, all of them had some crazy secrets -- they apparently have all cheated on ex-boyfriends, one dated a 51 year old because he was her "sugar daddy" and spent thousands of dollars on her, one knowingly slept with a married man, one got fired from her job at a clothing store for having phone sex, etc etc... the list goes on. I was like, how do they get this information?!? But it was hilarious watching the girls try to defend themselves. The information about the girl who dated the older man was that he was 60 -- but when she tried to explain herself, she said "Well, first of all, he wasn't 60, he was 51" -- bwah! Oh, that makes it sooo much better, honey. I don't think I've laughed that hard in a long time.

Well, I've rambled way too long -- but just to make it a bit longer --

The Friday Five

What's your favorite piece of clothing that you currently own? My tan corduroy sherpa jacket from Abercrombie.

What piece of clothing do you most want to acquire? A long red coat like this one from Banana Republic.

What piece of clothing can you not bring yourself to get rid of? Why? Uh, nothing really. If I don't like something, I'll donate it to Goodwill -- and I don't really have clothes with that much sentimental value. With shoes, though, I'm like a pack rat. I have pairs of shoes that I haven't worn in years.

What piece of clothing do you look your best in? Just jeans, a cute baby tee and a fun belt. For some reason, I'm very big on belts right now.

What has been your biggest fashion accident? WAY back, I used to wear jeans where the waist was really high. AND I used to tuck my shirts into my jeans. *shudder*
