So... I'm attempting the whole driving thing again. (Yes, I do not have my driver's license and I realize I am 25). :P

With some pressure from my friends at work, I took the written test a few weeks back, got my permit, and took my first driving lesson yesterday (well, technically, it wasn't my first lesson but it's been *years* since I've been behind the wheel). I was terrified and nervous for the first 5 minutes (AND almost hit another car, natch) but after the anxiety wore away, it wasn't so bad. I have LOTS of hours of practice ahead of me, though... I need to practice my turns (I have a feeling I go too slowly), get used to traffic, and I have yet to even attempt driving on the freeway (the very thought scares the bejeezus out of me).

My goal is to take the manual driving test by my birthday (October), which gives me about 3 months. You all are my witnesses! I can't back down now. EEK.

I started getting ready for the trip to Hawaii (squee!) this weekend... bought flip flops, beach towels, sunscreen, shorts (ugh, I don't typically wear shorts but they're a necessary evil), and of course, a swimsuit. Trying on swimsuits was... NOT FUN. I don't really have body image issues but... blech. I'd rather not have to try on bathing suits again. Ever again. *shudders*

So... I finally managed to finish up sour-lemon.org. Does anyone even remember that I bought that domain months back? lol. Anyway, I basically moved all my wallpapers and scans and combined them into one big multimedia site since I was getting tired of maintaining separate sites. There's nothing new... yet. But there *is* a new layout! Please visit!

And some memes since I was tagged by Alie...

Ships Meme
1. Pick your 5 favorite OTPs (One True Pairings)
2. Find pictures and post them
3. Give the name of the OTP and what fandom they're from
4. List your favorite moment between them
5. Tag 5 people to do this meme

OTP #1 (aka my favorite ship of all time): Pacey and Joey, Dawson's Creek

Favorite Moment: Joey running to the docks to tell Pacey she loves him... just in time to sail away with him on the True Love for the summer.

OTP #2: Ephram and Amy, Everwood

Favorite Moment: Ephram returning from his summer in New York to be greeted by Amy at the airport. (This scene *never* fails to make me smile).

OTP #3: Anne and Gilbert, Anne of Green Gables series

Favorite Moment: Gilbert's marriage proposal to Anne at the end of Anne of the Island. (This is my favorite moment in the movies as well).

OTP #4: Harry and Hermione, Harry Potter

Favorite Moment: The entire time-travel sequence from The Prisoner of Azkaban.

OTP #5: Seth and Summer, The OC

Favorite Moment: Seth "sweeping Summer off her feet" (slow dancing in his room at the end of The Heartbreak).

June 23, 2005

Finally got a chance to watch the pilot of Veronica Mars. And I liked it (but is it just me or does Kristin Bell remind anyone else of Allison Mack?). :) I even managed to get Rob to watch the episode with me. Too bad I already know what's going to happen by season's end... I guess that's what I get for reading my friends' thoughts on the show when I hadn't even watched a single episode, lol. Anyway, does anyone have any idea why in the world UPN is airing the season out of order?!? I don't understand. Rob and I almost watched the second episode saved on our Tivo until we realized it was episode 6. And the most recent episode aired was episode 10. %$#@! I guess I should download the episodes we're missing? Guh. What a pain. Anyway, yay for VM! I'm glad I hopped on the bandwagon.

Countdown: 2 weeks until Hawaii!

June 19, 2005

Didn't do much this weekend but I have finished some books...

June
17. Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden, 448 p
I ended up really loving this book when I didn't think I would at the beginning. It took me quite awhile to really get going -- after about 3 days, I was only 50 pages in. But I happened to be reading it at lunch one day at work and about 5 people commented and told me how much they loved it. That inspired me to get moving! After the initial description of time/place/setting, etc. the story really picked up. I became really invested in Chiyo and her childhood and her journey to become a geisha that the pages finally seemed to fly by. I do have to admit that there were a few parts that screamed "trashy romance novel" to me but overall, I highly recommend this book. Thanks for the rec, Barry! :)

18. The Second Summer of the Sisterhood by Ann Brashares, 416 p
Couldn't resist picking this up after learning that the girls' stories from the first book continue on (thanks Sarah!). I enjoyed this installment much better than the first -- maybe because I already "knew" the characters? But the funny thing is, I loved Lena and Tibby far more than Carmen and Bridget, which is the total opposite from my feelings at the end of the first book. I especially found myself wanting Lena to be happy so this book was torture. :( Anyone know when the third book is going to be released in paperback? I'm too cheap to spring for the hardcover. :P

I really need to find a nearby library. Books are pretty darn pricey! Not to mention that I don't have anymore space on my bookshelf.

Next up: The Bourne Identity and then a re-read of the Harry Potter books to get ready for Book 6. SQUEE!

Is Katie Holmes really engaged to Tom Cruise?!

If so, they are FREAKING me out. This relationship is just NOT normal.

June 16, 2005

Saw Les Miserables last night (yay for free tickets from work!). OMG. The singing was amazing -- plus, the actor who played Jean Valjean, Randal Keith, was the very same one who Cameron Mackintosh chose to play the role on Broadway when the musical ended its run in 2003. He was PHENOMENAL. The only problem with the show was that the Curran Theatre is incredibly tiny so the choreography and staging was so different from the times I've seen the show before and I found myself thinking "Hey, that set is different" or "He's not supposed to be standing there." I guess I'm just used to seeing the musical on a much larger stage. Regardless, Les Mis was so great -- if the national tour hits your city, you should definitely try to see it. The next musical that hits San Francisco is Wicked. Anyone seen it (I think Sarah has, if I remember correctly)? Like it?

Oooohhh, Keri Russell and Jonathan Rhys-Meyers have been cast in Mission Impossible 3. Great cast... I hope this movie will be better than the second one. What a disappointment it was.

I so want to see Batman Begins. Possible weekend activity.

June 12, 2005

I've decided that IF/WHEN I get married, I'm gonna do it in Las Vegas. Seriously. That way I could pay some hotel to put together the ceremony, flowers, cake, photography, etc. for a package price instead of spending an entire year stressing over the budget and running around trying to get everything done. I just don't think I'm cut out to handle the headache.

When I was younger, I used to think I wanted the "fantasy" wedding with hundreds of guests in attendance. Now, not so much. The time and most importantly, MONEY just don't seem worth it anymore. Especially after seeing the 610 (!!!) guests at my friend's wedding yesterday. There were sooo many people and the reception was PACKED. It was lots of fun but a little chaotic and maybe even a tad bit impersonal and that's not really how I want to remember my wedding day (that's providing I ever have one :P).

Speaking of weddings, my cousin Reymund is engaged! Well... kind of. It's a weird situation. There is a ring... his girlfriend knows about it... but there hasn't been an official proposal. Don't ask. I don't really know what's going on there but YAY for them! Aww. :)

Not looking forward to work tomorrow. I didn't even feel like I got to relax at all this weekend. Bah.

June 10, 2005

Holy moly. I never thought I would see the day that my dad would finally have a working computer. Up until just a few months ago, he had the SLOWEST machine known to man. I would run out of patience just waiting for the darn thing to start. And surfing the web was pretty much out of the question. Now the computer boots up in a matter of seconds and not minutes and I can actually go online (granted he's still using a 56k modem) and not kill myself just waiting for the browser to load. It's amazing.

So yay, I'm in LA. It was my first time flying down here on JetBlue. I'm not quite sure if I liked it or not. Sure, they have a TV at each seat but when the channels are "unavailable" for most of the trip due to "natural airplane movement" then I don't know if it's even worth it. I tried to watch an episode of Law & Order: SVU but gave up after the channel went dead for about the 5th time. At least they have a great variety of snack choices. It was pretty cool to have a chocolate biscotti instead of peanuts during the flight.

Anyway. :) Off to bed...

June 9, 2005

I'm watching the MTV Movie Awards and Katie Holmes is presenting the MTV Generation award to Tom Cruise. Now. I normally love her (leftover from my Dawson's Creek obsession) but OMG, what happened to her?!? First of all, she's waaaay too skinny now and then she was too smiley and weird during her introduction (has she been taking crazy lessons from Tom?). I didn't know who was FREAKING me out more -- Tom (and I'm a huge fan of his work) or Katie.

LOVED loved loved the reenactment that Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling did of their kissing scene in The Notebook. Haven't seen the movie but damn, that was HOT. Gotta rent the movie...

The rest of the awards were pretty forgettable.

Anyway, I'm heading to Southern CA for a friend's wedding on Saturday -- hope everyone has a great weekend!

June 8, 2005

My vacation to Hawaii is set. Got the days off, booked the flights and hotel... now I just need to have the patience to wait until July 7. SQUEE!!! I'm so excited. Rob and I are attending our high school friends' wedding in Honolulu on the 9th (he's actually a groomsman) but we figured we may as well stick around a few extra days and enjoy the island. I am so ready for this vacation. The hotel we're staying at even has a spa... I'm totally going to treat myself to a massage and facial. Mmmm.

Now for some memes cause I was tagged by Amanda and Alie...

My blog seems to have caught a case of "Boring" these past few days...

Anyway, just wanted to wish my best friend Robyn a very Happy Birthday! Hope you had a great day! :)

June 4, 2005

Thanks to Sarah's head's up, I found and downloaded the Rent trailer. All I have to say is...

SQUEE. It is seriously AMAZING. There's no dialogue (just clips pieced together with Seasons of Love playing over it) but it's one powerful trailer... *sigh* I cannot wait til November. But for now, watching the trailer over and over and over will suffice. :P

Quick meme...
1. Current fandoms: Everwood and Dawson's Creek (yes, still). I consider myself a part of many other fandoms but I find it hard to really get involved. Fandoms can be SCARY.

2. My first fandom ever: Dawson's Creek

3. My most recent fandoms: Grey's Anatomy, Lost

4. 5 Fandoms that mean a lot to me: Dawson's Creek, Everwood, Felicity, Roswell, and BtVS

I may get a chance to add Veronica Mars to the list of my many fandoms -- apparently UPN really is rerunning season 1 starting June 14. I'm gonna see if the show actually lives up to the hype. Then I won't feel so out of the loop anymore, lol.

Lastly, just wanted to share that Jennifer put up a new layout at High Anxiety and I've finally installed a new gallery... hope you all like the new look!
